Bangkok, Thailand hosted the 21st International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) from 26 July to 1 August 2025, bringing together top geography students from around the world for a week of academic competition, fieldwork, and cultural exchange. Among the outstanding teams was Team Malaysia, ready to make their mark on the global stage.
Malaysia’s Hopefuls: Training for iGeo 2025
Four bright young minds — Bryan Ng Hao Xuan, Hee Xuan Kai, Samantha Tan Cheng Wei, and Lim Pei Ying — completed an intensive training camp at the University of Malaya in preparation for the International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) 2025 in Bangkok. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Amirah and Mr. Hanif, the students immersed themselves in the world of geography, blending classroom theory with practical fieldwork.
From learning about weather data collection at the UM meteorological station to conducting simulated fieldwork at Varsity Park, the camp was filled with hands-on experiences. They also sharpened their skills in GIS and remote sensing — essential tools for modern geographers. As the competition date approached, the focus shifted to exam readiness, poster presentation skills, and final preparations for the journey.
The training camp was not only an academic endeavour but also a platform for personal growth and camaraderie. The students strengthened their teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, setting the stage for a strong performance on the world stage. Good luck, Team Malaysia! 🌏
Triple Bronze Triumph: Malaysia Shines at iGeo 2025 🥉🥉🥉
Malaysia shone at iGeo 2025 in Bangkok as four talented young geographers — Bryan Ng Hao Xuan, Hee Xuan Kai, Samantha Tan Cheng Wei, and Lim Pei Ying — showcased months of rigorous training under Dr. Amirah and Mr. Hanif’s guidance. Competing against participants from over 50 countries, the team’s passion and skill earned Malaysia three Bronze Medals (Bryan, Hee, and Samantha), a testament to their dedication in mastering theory, fieldwork, GIS, and presentation skills. Beyond the podium, they immersed themselves in Bangkok’s cultural and environmental wonders, building global friendships and broadening horizons.
